Generations Retreat & Grow Farm
Mission
Generations Retreat & Grow Farm is a nonprofit nature-based learning center located on a 24-acre farm in Wabanaki Territory, Avon, Maine. Through hands-on regenerative farming, outdoor recreation, environmental education, and cultural learning, we support multigenerational families in developing practical, earth-based skills, strengthening connections with one another, improving well-being, and building resilient communities.
Values
We believe that by creating opportunities for shared learning, meaningful connection, and joy, we strengthen our capacity to care for one another, build self-sufficiency, and practice reciprocity with the Earth so that future generations may thrive.
Our Programs
The Outdoor Recreation and Nature Learning Program provides free, guided opportunities for families to learn outdoor skills, explore the natural environment, and improve their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Activities include hiking, paddling, swimming, zip-line, outdoor play & exploration for pre-school age, fishing, youth eco-art, canoeing/kayaking, yoga, camping, navigation, fire starting, wildlife observation, seasonal nature study, and trail stewardship. Each activity combines recreation with environmental education, safety instruction, and responsible land-care practices.
The Farm and Food Systems Education Program provides hands-on learning in growing, harvesting, preparing, cooking, and preserving food. Participants learn through seasonal farm activities: orchard care, soil stewardship, seed saving, pollinator education, medicinal plant care & preparation, fishing, hunting, and learning about traditional ecological knowledge (TEK). The program strengthens food knowledge, land-based skills, healthy eating, environmental responsibility, and intergenerational learning/teaching. This program is intended to empower family food sovereignty through land access and traditional ecological methods. We welcome individuals and other organizations to join in on workshops through participation or teaching.
